Green 3x3 Plus Quilt Timeline

Green Hospital Quilt Pinned via

Started: August 1, 2013

August 1, 2013: After seeing an antique quilt that my friend found at a thrift store, we decide we have to make replica versions. I draft a pattern and I decide to first make a black-and-green one for my son using solids. I start collecting green solids.

October 13, 2014: I finally get all the solids organized and realize I can organize the blocks into a neat ombre pattern. I go to town and all the plus blocks are finished!

October 20, 2014: The top is on the design wall, borders cut and assembly in progress!

December 2, 2014: We decide to go super bold and do a solid black backing. Everything is ready to be pinned!

December 27, 2015: My son has switched to a double bed so this quilt has to be reworked, so it sits.

January 6, 2016: Its been a busy couple of years and the top is still in the stack waiting to be pinned and quilted.

March 23, 2016: I’m going to have to re-make this into a double, but I’m avoiding it.

March 10, 2018: Okay, no more avoiding. Time to get this baby done!!! I photograph it in it’s twin state and make a plan to partially deconstruct it and make it into a double. The quilt needs to be much wider and a teensy bit longer.

March 12, 2018: I remove the existing borders, add two more rows of plus blocks keeping the ombre working (amazingly I still have most of the fabrics), then a secondary border and new outside borders.

May 4, 2018: I get close-up pictures of the quilting on my quilting friend’s Hospital Quilt so I can potentially replicate the pattern we created.

August 12, 2018: The backing has to be changed too, so I insert a row of green stripes down one side of the backing for a single color stripe in a field of black. My son is feeling like all the black is too much, so that is set aside to make a new quilt.

August 16, 2018: An entirely new backing is made from the original striped fabric that had been set aside for the quilt plus an insertion of stripes on one side. The batting is prepped and ready to pin!

August 25, 2018: Quilt is pinned!
